X-ray linewidths of nearly perfect copper crystals

The half widths of reflections from successive orders of (111) in copper were determined using a double spectrometer. Rocking curve nreasurements were made using Cu crystals in both crystal positions and using perfect Si crystals in the first crystal position with Cu crystals in the second position. The results agree quite well with values calculated from the Darwin theory for perfect crystals. A marked narrowing in the (222) rocking curve was observed when a Si (333) reflection from the perfect first crystal and Cu (222) reflection in the parallel second crystal arrangement was used.
