MEASUREMENT OF THE POLARIZING POWER OF COPPER AND ZIRCONIUM FOR 3.4-Mev NEUTRONS (in German)

Journal Article · · Helvetica Physica Acta (Switzerland)
OSTI ID:4686712
The azimuthal asymmetry of (d,d) neutrons scattered by copper and zirconium was measured at six different angles. A thick heavy ice target was bombarded with deuterons of 800 kev energy (mean neutron energy 3.16 Mev). The asymmetry was measured with fixed counterposition by rotating the polarization of the incident neutron beam through an angle of plus or minus 90 deg by means of a solenoid. The analyzing power of copper and zirconium was determined at lab. scattering angles of 55 to 120 deg . The values of the analyzing power were corrected for multiple scattering and the polarization of the d,d neutrons was assumed to be P/sub 1/= -0.10. (auth)
