SPIN AND NUCLEAR MOMENTS OF 6.7-HOUR Cd$sup 10$$sup 7$

The Zeeman and hyperfine structure of the (5s5p) /sup 3/P/sub 1/ state of 6.7-h Cd/sup 107/ was determined by optical double resonance. Positive identification of the isotope was obtained through the observation of the decay of the Zeeman resonance signals. The nuclear spin (I), magnetic hyperfine- structure coupling constant (A), and the quadrupole coupling constant (B), are I = 5/2, A(/sup 3/P/sub 1/) = -854.2 plus or minus 1.0 Mc, and B(/sup 3/P/sub 1/) = --166 plus or minus 3 Mc. Neglecting possible hyperfine structure anomalies and quadrupole shielding effects, the corresponding nuclear moments are mu /sub 107/ = --0.6162(8) mu /sub N/ and Q/sub 107/ = +0.77(10) b. These moments are compared with the predictions of the configuration mixing model of Noya, Arima, and Horie. The ratio of the Cd/sup 107/ and Cd/sup 109/ quadrupole moments is Q/ sup 107//Q/sub 109/ = 0.993(20); this result is independent of the shielding corrections. (auth)
