A method is described for inhibiting reactions of CO/sub 2/ with carbon in a reactor. It consists of adding hydrogen gas continuously to the CO/sub 2/ before passing it over the graphite and of continuously removing water vapor formed in the reactor in an auxiliary circuit between the reactor and heat exchanger.
