EFFECTS OF X-IRRADIATION ON PROTEOLYTIC ENZYMES OF MOUSE SPLEEN

Journal Article · · Ann. Rept. Radiation Center Osaka Prefect.
OSTI ID:4684864
Changes in proteolytic activity concerned with an increase in protein- free DNA in the x-irradiated mouse spleen were investigated. After 1000 r x irradiation, the proteolytic activity of spleen increased linearly up to 1.9 times the controls during 4 hr, and the rate of protein-free DNA also increased over 2 times during 6 hr. The relation between the changes is discussed. It was concluded that the change in protein-free DNA comes as a result of splitting from the DNA protein complex (insoluble in 0.14M NaCl) of which the protein moiety has been digested by the intracellular proteolytic enzymes being progressively activated by irradiation.
