THE SYNTHESIS OF RIBONUCLEIC ACIDS IN IRRADIATED EHRLICH ASCITES TUMOR CELLS

Journal Article · · Ann. Rept. Radiation Center Osaka Prefect
OSTI ID:4684832

The effects of radiation on the incorporation of P/sup 32/ into various RNAs of Ehrlich ascites tumor cells (EAT-cells) was investigated. The incorporation of P/sup 32/ into RNA was not significantly affected by 800 and 1000 r irradiation, whereas the specific activity of DNA was reduced to 75 to 80% of the unirradiated control. The results evidently show the minor effect of radiation on the synthesis of total RNA. It was concluded that the synthesis of nucleolar RNA is more radiosensitive than other RNA fractions, especially nucleolar-RNA II. (P.C.H.)
