A method of spacing fuel rods arranged in parallel to form a reactor fuel element is patented. The spacing is accomplished by distance rings pushed on to the casing of the fuel rods. Parts of the ring contact the casing, and the rest of the ring is separated from the casing. Outside parts of the ring maintain the spaces between the rods. Various configurations for the distance rings are described. (M.P.G.)
