THE CAPTURE OF K$sup -$ MESONS BY COMPLEX NUCLEI

The effect on the two-nucleon capture process of nuclear and k/sup -/ meson orbit distortion brought about by the residual Coulomb interaction is studied. It is suggested that a collective type of capture process by the distorted nucleus could exist that gives reasonable agreement with emulsion experiments without the assumption of surface alpha -particle clusters.
