THE CAPTURE OF NEGATIVE K MESONS BY COMPOUND NUCLEI (in German)

Journal Article · · Zeitschrift fuer Naturforschung (West Germany) Divided into Z. Nautrforsch., A, and Z. Naturforsch., B: Anorg. Chem., Org. Chem., Biochem., Biophys.,

The interaction of negative K mesons with the compound nuclei of photographic emulsions was analyzed. The SIGMA /sup -/ capture term was studied. 75% showed no charged secondary tracks. The average Coulomb potential of the nuclei capturing the K/sup -/mesons was 8.4 plus or minus 2 Mev. From the energy spectrum of the SIGMA hyperons, an attracting SIGMA -nuclear potential V/ sub SIGMA / == --(15 plus or minus 10) Mev results. The emission frequency of the SIGMA hyperon indicate the SIGMA -nucleon effective cross section. (tr- auth)
