MULTINUCLEON CAPTURE OF K$sup -$ MESONS (in Polish)

The experimental results and the more recent theoretical models of K/sup -/ capture are presented, with emphasis on the multi-nucleon interaction with K/ sup -/ mesons. K/sup -/ capture appears to take place while the meson is in a Bohr orbit with respect to the certer of the nucleus, and subsequently interacts with the nucleus after falling to a lower energy state (smaller orbit) with the emission of a gamma-ray. The capture takes place predominantly at the surface of the nucleus. The multi-nucleon interaction, in one of the models, takes place wtth nucleon clusters, very likely with alpha clusters. The experimental evidence to date, however, indicates that none of the modeIs thus far proposed can be fully accepted in that none fully explain the observations. The many- nucleon interaction in K/sup -/ capture becomes more probable with increasing atomic weight of the nucleus, and this will probably be explained only in the course of further investigation. The ratio of mono-nucleon to many-nucleon interaction should be very interesting as investigated with a liquid heIium bubble chamber. This would be very important for the investigation of the proposed alpha-model of interaction. A propane bubble chami ber would also be of great use in studying capture in carbon with its alpha-structure. The frequency of emission of deuterons, tritons and other panticles in K-capture, and their energy and anguIar distributions should become important contributions to the problem of K/sup -/ capture.
