THE DESIGN OF A CAPACITOR AND SWITCH ASSEMBLY FOR LOW INDUCTANCE

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4677116
Certain plasma physics experiments require ultra-low inductance capacitor banks to provide power for fast-rising magnetic fields. The design of a switch header integrated with a capacitor that minimizes the inductance is described. The assembly of the 5- mu f, 25-kv capacitor and the mating size A ignitron has an inductance of 0.04 mu H, which is a factor of 4 less than a previous design. This system can deliver 155 ka in 0.75 mu sec. Applications and operating experience are presented. (auth)
