PHOTOPRODUCTION OF POSITIVE $pi$ MESONS WITH HYDROGEN

The production of positive pi mesons by the interaction of photons with protons is studied. A bremsstrahlung beam of the electron-synchrotron in Bonn was used for these experiments. The energy distribution of this beam was measured, and the results are compared with theoretical calculations. The construction of a range telescope with 5 counters for the detection of mesons is described. The differential cross section for the production of pi /sup +/ mesons was measured as a function of the angle. The results of these measurements are compared with values from calcalation by the Monte Carlo method. (Gmelin Inst.)
