MOSSBAUER ABSORPTION OF THE 77-kev $gamma$ RADIATION FROM Au$sup 197$ IN METALLIC GOLD (in German)

With the help of the Mossbauer Effect, the nuclear resonance absorption of the 77-kev gamma radiation of Au/sup 197/ in metallic gold of various thicknesses was investigated. The line width was determined to be (2.06 plus or minus 0.21) x 10/sup -7/ ev; this corresponds to a half-width of (2.2 plus or minus 0.3) x 10/sup -9/ sec in agreement with direct measurements. In addition, an isomeric displacement was observed; the energy of the emission line (Au/sup 197/ in Pt) was about (3.04 plus or minus 0.05) x 10/sup -7/ ev greater than that of the absorption line (Au/sup 197/ in metallic gold). From absorption measurements at 80, 20.4, and 4.2 deg K, Debye temperatures for source and absorber were found to be 197 plus or minus 16 and 171 plus or minus 8 deg K, respectively. (tr-auth)
