STUDY OF DECOMPOSITION OF SUPERSATURATED SOLID NEODYMIUM SOLUTION IN MAGNESIUM (in Russian)

Cast Mg alloy with 1.1 to 2% Nd was press-formed into rods (deformation 88%) and water quench hardened at 535 deg C. The rods were aged at 150 to 300 deg C from 2 to 100 hr. A comparison was made of the changing hardness, electroresistivity, and microstructure caused by each temperature of aging and by liberation of the Nd-rich phase from supersaturated solid solution. The optimal aging temperatures for achieving maximum hardness was determined as a function of Nd content. (Rev. Metal Lit., 20: No. 1, Jan. 1963)
