EXTRACTION OF HIGH SPECIFIC ACTIVITY CHROMIUM-51 FROM PILE-IRRADIATED POTASSIUM CHROMATE

Following in-pile irradiation of potassium chromate, the chromate in alkaline solution is passed through an alumina column, and the chromate is retained in the column, along with the pile-produced Cr/sup 51/ activity. An acid washing of the column elutes all this activity, and drying of the acid solution yields Cr/sup 51/ specific activities of 25 to 60 mC/mg. (T.F.H.)
