WINDING SYSTEM FOR RAISING AND LOWERING A CONTROL ROD IN A NUCLEAR REACTOR

A winding system for raising and iowering a control rod is described which consists of two drums with parallel axes and a flexible winding cable which is wound several times from one drum to the other, one end of the cable being attached to the winding case and from the other end of which the control rod is suspended. Movement of the control rod relative to the reactor core is achieved by varying the distance between the axes of the two drums. (Gmelin Inst.)
