A patented reactor core structure consists of tubular coolant-conducting containers housing a plurality of fuel subassemblies. The fuel subassemblies can be individually withdrawn from the container, and a latching mechanism holds them in the container. A second latching mechanism holds the container in the reactor core. Since the fuel subassemblies can be removed from the container, the container can be reused, or the subassemblies can be shuffied'' for even burnup. The core design is suitable for a maritime reactor, since the containers cannot fall out of the reactor if the ship capsizes. (M.P.G.)
