An arrangement of fuel elements in a reactor having a pressure vessel, a core within the vessel, and a top grid plate for the core is patented. The arrangement is particularly applicable to high-power gas-cooled reactors with graphite-encased fuel elements. A plurality of fuel elements arrarged to form a cluster are hurg by the top from a structure mounted on the grid plnte. The elements are spaced to allow coolant to flow across their tops, and the cluster can be moved as a unit by a fuel handling mechanism. The fuel elements and the hangers have passages to allow the purge flow of fission products to flow into fissionproduct traps. (M. P.G.)
