PARAMAGNETIC RESONANCE OF DYSPROSIUM IN CUBIC AND AXIAL FIELDS IN CaF$sub 2$

The paramagnetic resonance spectrum of dysprosium in tures. In a site of cubic crystal-field symmetry, the Dy/sup 3+/ ground state is a GAMMA /sub 8/ quartet. The observed g values and their angular dependences are in general agreement with predicted values derived from Bleaney's GAMMA /sub 8/spin Hamiltonian. The first excited state is a GAMMA /sub 7/ doublet 8.5 plus or minus 1 cm/sup -1/ above the ground state with an isotropic g = 7.52 plus or minus 0.05. The fourth and sixth degree parameters describing the cubic crystal field are A/sub 4/(r/sup 4/) approximates -- 200 cm/sup -1/ and None +Non en please lete e ove stract . 853=====
