A reactor fuel element provided with a device to prevent vibration due to the flow of coolant in the fuel channel is patented. The fuel element is of elongate form, and its ends are designed so that a series of fuel elements can be stacked upon one another in a vertical channel. At one end of the fuel element, radial support members are provided, at least one of which can be radially extended and retracted by sliding relative to the fuel element. The sliding member is held in a retracted position by a spring until it is forced outward by the end of the adjacent fuel element. The sliding member extends until the support members contact the wall of the channel and stabilize the fuel element. The fuel-element is especially designed for gas-cooled reactors. (M.P.G.)
