URANYL ION SODIUM ALIZARIN 3-SULPHONATE CHELATE. PART II. SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC AND ELECTRICAL CONDUCTANCE STUDIES ON THE COMPOSITION AND STABILITY OF THE CHELATE

Uranium (VI) and sodium alizarin 3-sulfonate combine in the ratio of 1: 1 to give a violet-colored chelate exhibiting maximum absorbance at 560 m mu . The chelate is stable between pH 3.0 and 7.0. The value of log K (stability constant) was found to be 4.5 plus or minus 0.1 and that of the free energy change of formation ( DELTA F deg ) 8.3 plus or minus 0.2 at pH 5.0, temperature 30 deg C and ionic strength 0.15M.
