CHELATE FORMATION BETWEEN THORIUM ION AND SODIUM ALIZARIN-3-SULPHONATE: A SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC STUDY

Journal Article · · J. Sci. Ind. Research (India)
OSTI ID:4070286
The spectrophotometric method developed for studying the stability of a complex is employed for the study of chelate formation between thorium ion and sodium alizarin3-sulfonate. The composition of the chelate is found to be Th(ARS)/sub 2/, by the method of continuous variation, using absorption-spectrum data, obtained with a Unicam SP 500 spectrophotometer. The chelate has a lambda at 520 m mu and is stable between pH 2.85 and 8.0. The value of log K is found to be 8.23 plus or minus 0.11, and DELTA F deg is -11.35 kcal at 25 deg . (auth)
