THE REACTION MECHANISM OF THE C$sup 13$(d,n) AND C$sup 13$(d,p) REACTIONS BETWEEN 3.2 AND 4.1 Mev

Journal Article · · Nuclear Physics (Netherlands) Divided into Nucl. Phys. A and Nucl. Phys. B
Angular distributions and excitation curves for the C/sup 13/(d,n)N/sup 14/ and C/sup 13/(d,p)C/sup 14/ reactions were obtained for E/sub d/ between 3.2 and 4.1 Mev. For both cases, the angular distributions peak at 25 deg , a feature typical of stripping with 1 = 1. The (d,n) distributions show a secondary maximum at about 80 deg , which the (d,p) distributions do not show. The excitation curves in both cases show a weak resonance structure at 3.4 Mev. Distorted-wave Born approximation calculation gives a satisfactory fit to the (d,p) angular distributions but predicts similar angular distributions for both (d,p) and (d,n) reactions, contrary to the experimental result. The contribution from processes other than the deuteron stripping processes was considered. (auth)
