A STUDY OF THE (He$sup 3$,n) REACTION ON C$sup 12$ AND C$sup 1$$sup 3$

Angular distributions and excitation curves are presented for the /sup 12/C(/sup 3/He,n)/sup 12/O (ground state) reaction for bombarding energies between 5.5 and 11 Mev and for the /sup 13/C(/sup 3/He,n)/sup 15/O (ground state) reaction for bombarding energies between 7.5 and 11 Mev. The angular distributions in both cases have peaks at 0 deg . They are analyzed in terms of Newns' double stripping theory. In the case of /sup 12/C, the 0 deg cross section shows a large variation with energy, while in the case of /sup 13/C the excitation curve is relatively flat. Results are compared with the available data from corresponding (/sup 3/He,p) reactions. (auth)
