THE ALLOYS OF RUTHENIUM WITH TITANIUM AND ZIRCONIUM (in German)
The formation of intermediate B2 phases TiRu and ZrRu as well as the C14 type Laves phase ZrRu/sub 2/ was confirmed. TiRu and ZrRu melted congruently at a temperature of 2100 to 2150 deg C. They showed no phase transformation or decomposition at lower temperatures. ZrRu/sub 2/ decoraposed by a eutectoid reaction at 1300 plus or minus 20 deg C. The solubility of Ru in alpha -Ti and alpha -Zr was small; in BETA -Ti and BETA -Zr it was considerably larger. BETA -Ti was stabilized by addition of Ru so that the temperature of the BETA yields alpha transformation could be moved below room temperatures for alloys with 16 to 20 at.% Ru. The investigation of the Zr-Ru alloys in the concentration range of the BETA yields alpha transformation was difficult due to the high affinity of Zr to oxygen. These alloys behaved as ternary alloys. The transformation and precipitation processes in the titanium-rich alloys may lead to considerable precipitation hardening. (auth)
