RESEARCH ON THE EFFECTS OF RADIATION ON BIOLOGICAL MOLECULES, ON AGGREGATES OF SUCH MOLECULES IN VITRO, AND ON MOLECULES AND AGGREGATES WITHIN CELLS. Progress Report, November 1, 1962-October31, 1963

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4646862
Results are reported for studies on the ability of 5bromodeoxyuridine incorporated in DNA to increase the sensitivity to ultraviolet light and x rays of Diplococcus pneumoniae; the radiosensitivity of DNA transforming activity, the effect of transforming activity of DNA extracted from spores on radioresistance, and the effect of heat shock on spore survival and the transforming of DNA of spores of Bacillus subtilis; the effects of accelerated heavy ioiis on survival of proliferative capacity, delay of mitosis, and chromosome damage in Chinese hamster cells in tissue culture; and a comparison of the biological efficiency of heavy ions and x rays on survival and mitotic delay in Chinese hamster cells in tissue culture.
