ON THE BIOLOGICAL ACTION OF RADIOACTIVE SULFUR

Journal Article · · Izvestiya Akademii Nauk Armyanskoi SSR, Biologicheskie Nauki (Armenian S.S.R.)
OSTI ID:4645637
Investigations on the toxicity and effects of S/sup 35/ on the organism established that the minimum lethal dose of the isotope for mice is 15, and for rats-20 microcuries per kilogram body weight; the LD/sub 100/ for mice is 40 and for rats-45 microcuries per kilogram body weight. S/sup 35/ was uniformly distributed throughout the organism; the isotope upon its entry into the organism induced degenerative modifications of leukocytes and produced temporary anemia, neutrophilia, and eosinophilia. The greatest changes were noted in the spleen: these were manifested by atrophic processes in the lymph follicules. (OTS)
