PROTECTIVE EFFECT OF MEG ON RADIATION INJURIES OF HEMATOPOIETIC SYSTEM IN MICE AND RATS

MEG markedly modified the response of Fe/sup 59/ uptake by hematopoietic systems, bone marrow, peripheral blood leukocytes and spleen, thymus, and body weight to lethal x irradiation in ddN mice. On the other hand, MEG failed to modify the response of the Fe/sup 45/ uptake, peripheral blood leakocytes, erythrocytes, hematocrit, reticulocytes, organ weight, and body weight to sublethal x irradiation in Wister and Donryu rats. Donryu rats and Wister rats were more sensitive to toxicity of AFT/sub Br/ and ME/sub SO4/ as compared with ddN mice. (auth)
