AUTOMATIC COUNTING OF RADIOACTIVITY ON TWO-DIMENSIONAL PAPER CHROMATOGRAMS

A technique was developed for automatic counting of radioactivity on two- dimensional pape r chromatograms. Radioautography by placing the developed chromatogram in contact with high-speed x-ray film enables the compounds to be located. Once the exact position of the several compounds is known they may be cut out from the complete chromatogram and counted separately. The excised chromatogram spots are mounted on a support of Mylar polyester film to form a strip bearing spots only at certain specified intervals. Two gas-flow end-window detector tubes are used for counting. (M.C.G.)
