BEAM OBSERVATION AND MANIPULATION IN THE AGS

The electrostatic induction (pickup) electrode system used for beam observation at the alternating-gradient synchrotron is described; and betatron oscillation minimization, equilibrium orbit measurement, vertical orbit correction, beam intensity measurement, and frequency determination using these electrodes are described. The separately monitored set of electrodes (one for radial position and one for total beam deflection) that feeds the r-f system is also discussed. (D.C.W.)
