IMPROVEMENTS IN NUCLEAR REACTOR REFUELING MACHINES

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4636783

A refuelling machine for operating at the pile cap of a heterogeneous gas-cooled reactor is patented. The machine consists of a pressure vessel containing 2 coaxial rotary magazines, one forming part of the hole preparation means and the other being the fuel-element container. The pressure vessel is formed with a single bottom opening for the passage of hole-preparation gear and fuel elements. The machine does not need to be moved during refuelling, since the pressure vessel stores fresh fuel elements to be supplied to the reactor, spent fuel elements withdrawn from the reactor, and all the gear required for refuelling. The design and operation of the machine are detailed. (M.P.G.)
