DETERMINATION OF SILICON IN ZIRCONIUM SALTS BY THE SILICOMOLYBDIC BLUE METHOD (in Polish)

The determination of silicon in zirconium nitrate, sulfute, and chloride and in potassium fluorozirconate is described. Silicic acid is converted into the colorimetrically active form by heating the solution with an addition of 0.5 n sodium hydroxide. Precipitation of zirconium ions in these conditions is prevented by an addition of solution of ammonium carbonate. Silicomolybdic acid formed at pH = 1 is reduced with ascorbic acid in 0.8 n sulfuric acid. Interference due to phosphorus and arsenic is eliminated by an addition of 10% solution of citric or tartaric acid to the mixture of heteropolyacids, whereby only phosphoro and arsenomolybdic acids are decomposed.
