THE USE OF AMMONIUM SALTS OF HETEROPOLY ACIDS FOR THE $sup 137$Cs ISOLATION

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4090463

A method of Cs/sup 137/ selective desorption on ammonium salts of heteropolyacids (HPA) from mixtures of fission products was studied. Experiments were carried out on a column of the ammonium salt of phosphotungstic and phosphomolybdic acids. The efficiency of cesium elution by 10 M ammonium nitrate solution was investigated. Excess ammonium nitrate was decomposed by heat treatment or by means of a mixture of nitric and hydrochloric acids. Decomposition of the ammonium salts of HPA by ammonium hydroxide was proposed as an alternative method for the separation of cesium. Components of decomposed HPA were precipitated as barium salts.
