A cooling system for an instrument used in a hightemperature environment is patented. The system is especially designed for cooling television cameras used with nuclear reactors. An outer casing encloses a hollowwalled porous member, which separates the instrument from its environment. Coolant liquid, which evaporates near the operating temperature of the instrument, is circulated into the hollow-walled member, and vapor is allowed to pass out of the inner and outer regions. The hollow-walled member holds enough coolant liquid to prevent the instrument from becoming overheated if the circulation of coolant is interrrupted for a short time. (M.P.G.)
