A DETECTOR FOR HIGH NEUTRON FLUX MEASUREMENTS

Journal Article · · Energia Nucl. (Milan)
OSTI ID:4630969
A detector for high neutron flux measurement is described. The working principle is based on the direct collection of electric charges emitted from a short-life beta source activated by the neutron flux itself. Experimental results obtained with a Rh/sup 103/(n, gamma )Rh/sup 104/ detector (half life 42 sec) are reported. The main features of the detector are: no need of power supply for charge collection; very little gamma sensitivity (the ratio of the signals from a gamma dose rate of 10/sup 8/ rad/h and from a thermal neutron flux of 10/sup 13/ n cm/sup -2/ sec/sup -1/ is about 1%; the possibility of reading the electric signal with a galvanometer; and the possibility of miniaturization.
