DETERMINATION OF THE NEUTRON REACTION CROSS SECTION FOR THE RHODIUM-103 NUCLEUS (in Hungarian)

>The /sup 103/Rh + n reaction was examined and the energy dependence of the cross section of the isomeric pair formed by the /sup 103/Rh(n, gamma )/sup 104,104m/Rh reaction was studied together with the behavior of the impulse moment of the intermediate nucleus formed during transition to lower spin levels. It was assumed that the decay of the intermediate nucleus by gamma emission may be neglected if another particle channel is open. Activntion by neutrons nt 0.032 ev, 24 and 116 kev, and 2.49 and 14.87 Mev was used for the measurements; a Sb- Be system in a paraffin block served as the photoneutron source in the thermal- neutron activation experiments. The measured half life of the isomer pair /sup 104,104m/Rh obtained in the tests agreed well with the literature data. The following average half life values were found: /sup 104/Rh, (42.8 plus or minus 0.47) sec; /104m/Rh, (4.29/ plus or minus 0.05) min; and /sup 104/T/sub c/, (17.11 plus or minus 0.72) sec The total (n, gamma ) cross sections at 24 kev was sigma /sub g/ = 1.69 b and delta /sub n gamma / = 1.89 b. At 2.49 Mev, a value of 5.24 was obtained for the delta /sub n gamma // delta /sub n alpha / ratio. The absolute reaction cross sections at a neutron energy of 14.87 Mev were as follows: /sup 103/Rh(n, gamma ) /sup 104/Rh,10.57 mb. /sup 103/Rh(n, gamma )/sup 104m/Rh, 3.23 mb; and /sup 103/Rh(n , alpha ) /sup 100/Tc, 11.16 mb (TTT)
