ON THE DISTRIBUTION OF TRANSVERSE PARTICLE MOMENTA IN NUCLEON-NUCLEON INTERACTIONS

Angular distribution of elastic nucleon scattering and correlation to the optical model were studied previously. An attempt was made to determine the distribution of elastically scattered particles by their transverse momenta and to compare the data with inelastic processes. A histogram was constructed for transverse momenta in proton elastic scattering at 0.8 and 8.7 Bev and compared with transverse momenta in inelastic interactions at 9 Bev. The comparison showed that the interaction was not a function of interacting nucleon energy, but coincided with elastic and inelastic processes. The stability of secondary particle transverse momentum distribution was used for approximation calculations of multiple meson production parameters (Lorentz factor of inelastic scattering nucleons and angular distribution in center-of-mass system). The method was based on the assumption that particle emission angles do not depend on particle momenta. A histogram of the total angular distribution of cosmic shower particles at E > 10" ev was constructed and analyzed. (R.V.J.)
