INELASTIC $pi$$sup -$-NUCLEON INTERACTIONS AT 7.5 Gev IN THE EMULSION

Interactions initiated by 7.5-Bev pi /sup -/ mesons are studied by an emulsion technique. The raean free path for inelastic collisions of negative pions at 7.5 Bev in emulsion proves to be (38.4 plus or minus 1.0) cm. With appropriate criteria, 215 inelastic pion-nucleon interactions are selected. Out of the secondary tracks 279 are identified. The angular distribution of the emitted pions, their momenta, and transverse momenta are investigated. Interactions with an inelasticity >0.5 raay be described by the statistical theory of multiple production. (auth)
