FINAL PROGRESS REPORT ON ORGANIC COOLANT TECHNOLOGY--FILM FORMATION STUDIES, NOVEMBER 1962-APRIL 1963

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4624011
Experiments with various fractions from tritium-labelled OMRE used coolant show that the oxygen-rich fractions contribute heavily to film formation in the Pyrolytic Capsule Fouling Test (PCFT). These fractions were not necessarily particulate matter or iron laden. Similar experiments were run using fractions of a carbon-14labelled used coolant which was prepared by the extended irradiation of carbon-14 labelled terphenyls. Intermittent purification was used to keep high boilers below 30%. These materials were prepared in the absence of oxygen in quartz containers. None of the fractions formed under these conditions showed any marked tendency to form films in the PCFT. (auth)
