IMPROVEMENTS RELATING TO FLUID TIGHT MEANS FOR THE CONNECTION OF DIFFERENT STRUCTURES, ESPECIALLY FOR THE CONTROL ROD DRIVES OF A NUCLEAR REACTOR

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4623701
Improvements are given that relate to connection means between two structures undergoing slight relative displacements especially between the pressure vessel of a nuclear reactor and the biological shielding enclosing this vessel so that these means may form a sliding chute for a control rod. The means comprise an inner tube suspended at its upper end by a ball-and-socket joint to the lower end of a shielding plug disposed within a cavity of the biological shielding and having a tortuous channel for the passage of the cable onto which the control rod is suspended. The lower end fits into a hole of the pressure vessel wall so as to allow slight deviations of this tube from the normal position, while an outer thin walled casing is connected at its extremities in a fluid tight manner with the hole in the vessel wall and the top of the shielding plug, respectively. The lower part of the container is adapted to bend in order to follow the relative displacementof the shielding and the vessel. (IIB)
