DEVICE PROVIDING A DEFORMABLE FLUID-TIGHT CONNECTION BETWEEN TWO STRUCTURES, IN PARTICULAR BETWEEN TWO NUCLEAR REACTOR ENCLOSURES

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4620206
A device is patented, which provides fluid-tight access of a movable member to one structure through another structure. The device is particularly designed for the passage of reactor control rods through the biological shield into the reactor tank, making allowance for the displacement of the tank relative to the concrete shield caused by expansion and creep. The control rod slides in and out of the reactor tank through a tubular guide unit. A sealing tube encloses the guide unit and is secured to the reactor tank at one end with the other end projecting through the shield. The sealing tube is deformable to permit relative movements of the tank and shield and has a fluid-tight closure device at its outer end through which an element of the guide unit projects. The angular movements of the guide unit relative to the tank are arranged for universal movement to a limited extent. (M.P.G.)
