IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO FLUID-TIGHT LIFTING ELECTROMAGNETS

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4675763
A fluid-tight electromagnet designed for handling control rods in submerged nuclear reactors is patented. The core and winding are in a fluid- tight casing and are movable relative to the casing between one position, when power is supplied to the winding and the magnetic circuit is completed through the wall of the casing and the end of the piece being lifted, and a second position, to which the core and winding are returned by a spring when the power to the winding is cut off. An engagement-indicator device consisting of a microswitch actuated by a rod fastened to the core is also inside the casing. (M.P.G.)
