21st century outlook for Asia-Pacific transport fuels is bright
In the US, and to a lesser extent, Europe, decisions in the refining industry for the past decade have been driven by environmental regulations developed on national and local levels. Lead phasedown, cleaner diesel fuel, or gasoline reformulation and oxygenation have been the key factors, often overwhelming an industry that is beset with shrinking margins and stagnating demand. The picture is quite different in the Asia-Pacific market, as a result, the world`s major oil companies have all turned their attention to exploiting some of the opportunities in the world`s fastest-growing market economies. Environmental concerns are one factor to consider in the gasoline/diesel mix in Asia, but other issues should be remembered. These issues are discussed.
