Investigations of driver-rod configurations of the critical facility ITR (in German)

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4473030
Zero-energy experiments have been performed to design modern power reactors and to check calculation methods and nuclear data. From the reactor physics point of view, ITR is characterized by the compact, very heterogeneous construction, and by novel structure materials. The critical facility permitted to build up very different configurations of fuel elements and reflector; thus it was possible to improve the results of calculation methods and to assess the suitability of data sets. This report explains the facility and the measuring techniques. The influences on critical mass as well as numerical and experimental reactivity values of components are discussed. The results of both measurements and calculations of reaction rates are compared considering spatial-dependence of reactor spectrum and power flattening.
