From international conference on the bases of the biological effects of ultraviolet radiation; Brno, Czechoslovakia (2 Oct UV induced mutations and repair in the phage lambda system of E. coli. The role of repair systems and of recombination in the induction of mutations in phage lambda was analyzed in both uv-irradiated extracellular phage and the uv-irradiated host strain. The frequency of induction of C mutants in irradiated suspensions of phage lambda after plating on rec/sup +/ UVR/sup +/ strain was not raised as compared with that observed after plating on a UVR- strain at the identical doses of radiation. The frequency of induction of mutations per 1 lethal hit was higher for the strain UVR/sup -/ than for the UVR/sup +/. The frequency of induction of C mutants of phage lambda i/sup 434/ was increased after the simultaneous infection of the cell with both phage lambda and phage lambda i/sup 434/. (auth)
