Affinity of $sup 253$Es for tumour tissue

Journal Article · · Nature (London) New Biol., v. 246, no. 149, pp. 23-25

A study was made of the tissue distribution of /sup 253/Es injected as citrate (~ 10 mu Ci /sup 253/Es kg/sup -1/), or various chelates into rats beari ng Morris 5123 hepatomas and RFT tumors, and mice with transplanted P-1798 lymphosarcomas and Ca-755 adenocarcinomas. Tissue distribution of intravenously administered /sup 253/Es-citrate was essentially complete at 4 h and /sup 253/Es appeared to have an affinity for 5123C hepatomas. Tumor to non-tumor ratios in animals bearing 5123C were generally quite high (up to 96.0 in muscle) at 1 day except for liver, kidney, and bone. The other tumors showed poorer affinities, although the tumor to muscle and tumor to blood ratios were relatively high. The /sup 253/Es concentration in the kidney could not be reduced by the use of more citrate or other chelating agents. However there was some enhancement of tumor to non-tumor ratios for spleen, marrow, and blood with higher doses of citrate, or the use of nitrilotriacetic acid (NTA) or hydroxyethyliminodiacetic acid (HEIDA).
