First 5 years of service of the concrete pressure vessels at Oldbury-on- Severn Nuclear Power Station

The operational problems experienced and some of the maintenance and inspection difficulties of the first 5 years of service of the Central Electricity Generating Boards first concrete pressure vessels at Oldbury-on-Seven Nuclear power station are examined. The load check and examination carried out on the stressing cables are detailed. Some of the early problems with the insulation are listed and results of some sam~les removed subsequent to power operations are given. Gas leakage is discussed and concrete temperature measurements and strain gage information examined. The problems of access are highlighted and some details of vessel settlement are given. (auth)
