Aspects of liquid-metal superheat and the effects on dynamic boiling

Conference ·
OSTI ID:4426119
From 4th intemational seminar on heat and mass transfer in liquid metals; Trojir, Yugoslavia (6 Sep 1971). See CONFThe technical background of liquid-metal superheat investigations is briefly given as an introduction. The term superheat'', which may have many different meanings, is explained in more detail. The problems of incipient boiling superheat are discussed. The thermohydraulic and physicochemical influences on initial nucleation of vapor bubbles are reviewed. Then nucleation models based on experimental results are discussed. Because of its basic influence, the results of superheat investigations are related to dynamic boiling problems. Finally, some goals of further work on incipient boiling superheat are proposed.
