Transient liquid-metal boiling and two-phase flow

Conference ·
OSTI ID:4439558

From 4th international seminar on heat and mass transfer in liquid metals; Trojir, Yugoslavia (6 Sep 1971). See CONF-710942-. Experimental data indicate that transient liquid-metal boiling in narrow ducts is best characterized by the slug-annular'' flow regime; the early void growth being described by the usual slug flow approximation (uniform pressure within the bubble), while the annular flow condition (non-uniform pressure within the bubble) describes the later stages of voiding. Simple methods for estimating the incipient superheat, the spherical and cylindrical vapor growth, the liquid film thickness, the transition from slug to annular flow, and the occurrence of local dryout are discussed.
