From first international conference on stable isotopes in chemistry, biology, and medicine; Argonne, Illinois, USA (9 May 1973). Proceedings of the first international conference on stable isotopes in chemistry, biology, and medicine. A relatively new application of stable isotopes, namely, their use for multilabeling of organic molecules is reviewed. This methodology is made practical and free of artifacts by the use of field ionization mass spectrometry. The principal advantages of this methodology and the instrumentation techniques used are discussed and a number of research problems attacked at present at the Stanford Research Institute (SRI) using molecular tracers are described.
